What a turtle can teach us about change
In business – just like in life – we’re constantly asked to tackle new challenges. Some of them are exciting and straightforward. Others? They feel overwhelming, even impossible. Especially when we face them for the first time.
What does a turtle have to do with it?
Let me introduce you to Victoria, a small but determined turtle.
Her mission: climb a set of stairs.
At first, it seems absurd. She’s never done it before. No previous experience. No blueprint. But she gives it a try. The first step is clumsy, perhaps even awkward. But she doesn’t give up. Step by step, she figures out what works. She refines her technique, uses her energy more efficiently, and finally, she reaches the top.
She doesn’t stop to wonder if she looks silly. She doesn’t wait for approval. She just keeps going.
Quietly. Steadily. Successfully.
Digital transformation requires movement
Victoria, in her wrinkled, unhurried elegance, reminds me of what true transformation takes: courage, consistency, and trust in the process. I often see these qualities in businesses that succeed in digital and agile transformation. Those who embrace the unknown, take the first step, and learn as they go.
And yet, I also meet many leaders who hesitate. Not because they lack skills or vision, but because the unknown feels risky. They tell themselves:
“This won’t work.”
“We’re not ready.”
“Others will think we’re failing.”
But here’s the truth: no one gets it perfect from the start. The key is to start anyway. Like Victoria, it’s not about looking perfect, it’s about moving forward.
From the first step to success
In digital transformation, that first step might be testing a new process, introducing automation, or shifting toward agile collaboration. These steps don’t need a flawless plan. They need a mindset that says: We’re willing to learn, adjust, and grow.
Success doesn’t shout. It shows up quietly:
- in routines that suddenly run smoother,
- in teams that take ownership,
- in customers who stay longer.
That’s why I admire turtles. They don’t talk much, but they’re powerful in motion. They remind us that slow isn’t bad – slow can be smart, steady, and surprisingly effective.
“Turtles can tell you more about the path than rabbits.”
And that’s what transformation is: not a race, but a journey. It’s about breaking through hesitation, embracing change – even if it means a few wobbly steps -and building strength with every move.
Let’s get the transformation started
So, if you’re standing in front of that “first step” in your transformation journey, let Victoria be your guide.
Don’t wait for perfection.
Don’t fear the climb.
Just start.
And remember: even quiet progress deserves respect.
